PureDrops in Uganda

2019

In 2019, the PureDrops team operated in Uganda for the first time.

The SIM 15 generation has established a partnership with the Uganda-based organisation SPOUTS of Water and contribute to the overall goal of PureDrops: to provide access to clean drinking water to those most in need. In particular, we focused on ensuring access spots for children and how to raise awareness of the dangers of unsafe water.

The PureDrops team accomplished our goal by donating 100 water filters to schools in Uganda directly and helping our partner SPOUTS to provide rural families with filters.

2020

In 2020, PureDrops continued operating in Uganda for the second time.

In Uganda, less than 35 percent of the people living in rural areas have access to basic water and almost 10 percent only have access to surface water. Furthermore, more than 40 percent of the population needs to walk for more than 30 minutes to their closest water source. This leads people to use and drink unsafe water which is one of the leading causes of death and disease across Uganda. Especially, children are vulnerable with more than 4000 dying every year due to diarrhoea caused by unsafe water. Also, the task of sourcing water is usually performed by women and girls, leading to a high level of gender inequality with regards to obtaining education and professional skills.

The PureDrops team donated 250 water filters to local schools in Rwanda and successfully helped Spouts water to reach out to more people in need.
