Indonesia 2013

Kelbung - Madura Island - BSF Filters

In Indonesia many poor communities, both in urban and rural areas, are not reached by the network of clean water provided by the government: residents are forced to drink water that is not potable, as the alternatives are too expensive.

Together with our Partner NGO on the ground, Yayasan Pondok Kasih, we produced, distributed, and installed 100 biosand water purification systems to ensure that the community’s most fundamental need is met.

The Biosand Filtration System (BSF) is a low-cost, effective, appropriate technology that utilizes slow-sand filtration for household treatment of drinking water.

The program directly involved the members of the local community through workshops and on-site training to provide them with the knowledge and experience to maintain their safe water systems for future generations, as well as raise awareness about the importance of clean water in daily life.
